‘The Alchemist’ Book Review

I bought this book two years ago to see what all the hype was about. I mean it must be one hell of a book to win the Guinness World Record for most translated book by a living author, and sell more than sixty five million copies in more than a hundred and fifty countries. So I expected nothing short of brilliant, only to be met by extreme disappointment. ‘The Alchemist’, it turns out, is just another face of ‘The Secret’ dressed up as a fable/ philosophical novel. I might’ve enjoyed this had I read it when I was ten, what with all the talking to wind and journeying through the desert. But as a fully grown adult, I found it rather boring and not the tiniest bit intellectually stimulating. Continue reading

‘The Secret’ Book Review

A relative gave me this book years ago insisting that it will ‘change my life’ and that it’s a ‘must read’. I absolutely regret the fact that I wasted precious time reading it.

It’s ridiculous how poorly written and highly delusional this book is. Just a bunch of stories of random people demonstrating ‘the power of the secret’ with no proper theme or conclusion. There is not a single cited ‘fact’ in that book and absolutely no credible sources to any of its claims. Continue reading
